Emergency tree work in Wellington

Storm Damage & Urgent Tree Work

Wellington weather has a way of finding the weak points in trees. After strong winds, it’s not uncommon to see broken branches, split trunks, or trees that have shifted or started leaning.

We carry out emergency tree work across Wellington, helping make situations safe and manageable after storm damage. Often the first step is simply assessing what’s happened and working out what needs to be dealt with straight away, and what can wait.

Making Trees Safe After Storms

Emergency work is usually about reducing immediate risk. That might mean removing a damaged limb that’s likely to fall, easing weight out of a canopy that’s been compromised, or clearing material that’s blocking access.

Once the immediate issues are under control, it becomes easier to take a step back and look at the tree more carefully. In some cases, it can be reshaped and retained. In others, removal is the more practical long-term option.

Trees Near Power Lines

Storms can also bring trees into contact with power lines, which needs to be approached with care. If there’s any uncertainty, it’s best to keep a safe distance and have it assessed properly. We’re used to working around these situations and can help guide what needs to happen next, whether that involves pruning, clearance work, or coordinating with the relevant services.

Working in Wellington Conditions

Steep sections, wind exposure, and tight access all add another layer to storm work in Wellington. These aren’t unusual conditions here, but they do mean each job needs to be approached thoughtfully. Taking the time to assess properly tends to lead to a better outcome than rushing in and over-cutting.

Emergency Tree Work Wellington

If you’ve had storm damage or something doesn’t look quite right after high winds, we’re happy to come out and take a look. Often a quick assessment is enough to understand what needs to be done and what can be left alone.

We take a more considered approach to understand your whole garden. Our garden designers can advise you on how to make your garden work better and our arborists can reshape and manage trees so they work in balance with the rest of your garden. We can also help with any garden maintenance work.

Faqs

What should I do if a tree has been damaged in a storm?

The main thing is to keep clear of the area, especially if there are broken or hanging branches. If power lines are involved, it’s best to stay well away and have it checked before anything else is done.

Do all storm-damaged trees need to be removed?

Not always. Some trees respond well to careful pruning and can be retained. Others, particularly if they’ve split or become unstable, may not recover in a reliable way and are better removed.

How quickly should storm damage be dealt with?

It depends on the level of risk. Anything that looks unstable or likely to fall is worth addressing sooner rather than later. Other damage can sometimes be left until conditions are calmer and the work can be done more carefully.

Can you work on trees near power lines after a storm?

This depends on the situation. If a tree is in contact with power lines, it needs to be handled cautiously and sometimes involves the network provider. We can help assess and advise on the next steps.

Do you offer urgent callouts?

We do our best to prioritise urgent situations, particularly where there’s a safety concern.

Testimonials

“After the February storm brought down massive leaders from our Pohutukawa tree, Max dropped everything to come out and help us get on top of a genuinely stressful situation. His response was prompt and professional, and he immediately put us at ease with a thorough assessment of the tree’s condition.
What stood out most was how pragmatic Max was throughout the whole process. Rather than just cutting back everything in sight, he took the time to explain the pruning decisions, balancing the tree’s health with making it safer for our property. He kept me in the loop at every step and I never had to chase him for an update, which made the whole experience so much less stressful than it could have been. He was also genuinely understanding of our priorities and constraints, never once making us feel like we were adding complexity to his day.” (Rohan, Karori, Wellington)

“I would recommend Max for any arborist work you require.  Max has just thinned out our large Pohutukawa, removing dead and damaged branches and did a fantastic job.  Our backyard was left tidy, a collection of firewood stacked under the deck from the trimming and now the Kaka, Tui and Kereru can fly easily through the tree.” Grant (Khandallah), Wellington

“Max and his team has worked for us several times, pruning and trimming various trees. His work has been excellent – he is a skilled arborist and has a very good eye. He is reliable, turning up when he says he will and communicating well. He is also very pleasant to have around.  I recommend him highly. Jane (Ngaio, Wellington)

“We have used them twice and both times had such a good experience. Really friendly and lovey people. They did a tree removal for us which was excellent. I would absolutely use them again if we needed an arborist. Thank you!” (Rona, Southgate, Wellington)

“Max has done arborist work for me. I was impressed at the careful way he shaped the trees to look natural and balanced. He tidied up efficiently at the end of the project. Max is professional and personable.” Elaine (Northland, Wellington)
